To Whom It May Concern,
On behalf of the Naperville Jaycees, I would like to express our gratitude to Bob
Driskill and Spectacular Midways and say how pleased we have been with their performance
as our Amusement Company for the 'Last Fling' festival. The Last Fling is the
Naperville Jaycees largest fundraiser and takes place every Labor Day weekend, with an
estimated attendance of 330,000 people.
Throughout the years, Spectacular Midways has strived to provide a fun and safe
carnival, with rides for patrons of all ages. They have always been cooperative and
done 'whatever it takes' to comply with safety and fire department inspections. Last
year, Naperville Fire Department developed new safety and electrical requirements for each
ride. The inspections were extensive and time consuming, but the Driskill's complied
with all of the Fire Department requests.
In the year 2000, the Mayor of Naperville awarded Bob Driskill and Spectacular Midways
a Safety Citation for providing such a wonderful, safe carnival, and even declared a 'Bob
Driskill' day at the fling!
In addition to their excellent safety record, the Driskill's have gone above and beyond
the call of duty, helping the Jaycees to sell tickets for our Main Stage Entertainment on
the weekend in their ticket booths. These monies allowed us to bring higher quality
entertainment and contributed to the flings success.
They have also worked with the Jaycees to provide rides for patrons with Special
Disabilities each year. This is greatly appreciated and looked upon highly by the
Naperville community.
Over the years their employees have always proven to be honest, well groomed, and
respectful to our patrons. In an industry that can sometimes have transient
employees, it is good to see their familiar friendly faces at the Fling each year!
The Jaycees truly appreciate the professional job and relationship that we have
developed with Spectacular Midways; we would highly recommend them as an Amusement company
to any organization.
Sincerely,
Keith Lang- Carnival Chairman 1990-2002

Dear Governor Rod Blagojevich,
RE: Carnival Amusement Ride Safety Board
It is such an honor and privilege to be asked to give a recommendation for Dan Driskill
as he attempts to become a member of the Carnival Amusement Ride Safety Board. What
a great candidate. I have known him for at least 16 years because his company,
Spectacular Midways, has done our Last Fling and Ribfest, which are big events in
Naperville. As a sideline, I have known his father since 1966 when he and I went
through the Police Academy. His father was on the Evergreen Park Police Force and I
was a Naperville Police Officer.
Dan follows his dad's footsteps as a man of integrity, honesty, and the love for
serving people. His concern about safety is incredible when it comes to carnival
rides. During the time that he is here working our carnival, he is consistently
checking his rides to make sure that safety is primary. He has come through the
ranks from operating a ride to setting up the whole carnival area to getting certification
in almost every possible area of amusement rides. He is very methodical and thinks
out of the box as far as what could happen if something were to malfunction or break.
He not only has the knowledge but also shares it with all of his employees in a way
that they don't ever realize that he is teaching them safety rules at all times.
This is his life and he has such a desire to be a member of this distinguished
board. Your consideration for him would really enhance the make up of your board.
If there is any more information you need, please feel free to call me at my home.
Sincerely,
A. George Predel
